Ed invented the Taulin
in his late teens, influenced as he was by the golden
age of science fiction writers. He looked at the aliens that were being used by most
writers, and realized that all of the really unique aliens were very inhuman. It was
this idea that eventually gave rise to the creatures that evolved into the
Taulin.

The Taulin homeworld, Romera, is a super cold planet where all of the life forms are
based on hydrogen and fluorine rather than carbon. Romera is not a hospitable
world; on the contrary, almost everything on the planet is an active part of the food
chain, and has developed its own lethal survival mechanisms. Born into the frigid
womb of this world, a creature must be strong, fast, and smart in order to survive,
and the Taulin are the strongest, the fastest, and the smartest.

Merely surviving such an inhospitable place is difficult enough for the horse/wolf
creatures. They live in tribal groups called Holds, where their lives revolve around
one thing: the millenia-old war against the other sentient life form on Romera, the
Narth. The Taulin have been at war for so long that they have adapted their entire
existence to the war. They have developed incredible speed, which when used in
conjunction with their fantastic weaponry makes them very formidable adversaries
indeed.

At one point, Ed had given thought to developing the Taulin as an animated series,
but other projects took precedence and the project was put on the back burner.
All that survives of that effort are a few hand painted cels and a bunch of
conceptual drawings.

In developing the Taulin, Ed created hundreds of drawings and uncounted pages of
notes and story expositions. These were all destroyed in the Seventies, however,
by his zealously religious father-in-law who thought they were "demonically
inspired". The images on these pages are almost all that remains of the books upon
books of information.
